Inspiration
"I
like my work to feel somewhat animated, but enough on the reality side of life to make the viewer question; how the piece
was made, the meaning which it implies, and its functionality or purpose" - Rich Fizer
Rich finds his inspiration
through music, nature, and everyday occurrences. He will tell you that he favors such artists as Gaudi, Gaugan, Cezanne,
and Harvey. As a Master Glass Blower, each piece is designed by Rich, who takes pride in signing and dating the foot
of every vessel. His contemporary and fluidic style has earned him numerous honors throughout the country.
Blowing
glass requires a combination of mental creativity, physical energy and a high tolerance for heat. As he works with the
molten glass, it is continuous controlled chaos as he applies different techniques that yield his unique style. His
spontaneous energy toward the medium allows the glass to manifest various shapes that are captured in time.
"I
am open to its suggestive overtones .... the glass is always moving when I'm working with it. Studying the movement
of glass through the use of manipulation, centrifugal force, and gravity has been a main concern from the start in my studio.
Currently, I am studying the effects color placement has on the shape of the vessel".
Rich challenges the
fundamental role a vessel plays in society and encourages the viewer to re-examine the relationship that it holds for them
in their environment. In creating each piece, he is focused on visual depth as the both glass reflects and captures
light, while projecting a beautiful spectrum of colors. The colorful organic shapes cast a dancing shadow of color around
the foot of each piece. His play on line and form often leave the viewer questioning how the piece was made.
Fizer Glass, crafted in this unique
